How to scan a barcode to compare supermarket prices
Last updated 2 May 2026
ShopHop includes a barcode scanner in the mobile web app. Point your phone camera at any product barcode while you are in the supermarket and instantly see the current price at Woolworths, Coles and Aldi.
How to use it
- Open ShopHop on your phone and install it to your home screen for the fastest access.
- Tap the barcode icon in the search bar.
- Allow camera access when prompted.
- Point your camera at any product barcode.
- See prices at all three chains, the price history graph and the unit price.
- Add to your ShopHop list directly from the scanner result.
What you can check while you shop
- Current price at each chain for the same product.
- Whether the product is currently cheaper at another chain.
- The price history graph to see if the current price is high, low or typical.
- The unit price to compare with other pack sizes nearby.
Known limitations
Not every product in ShopHop’s database has a barcode on file. Products added more recently or products only sold at one chain may not always return a result. If a scan returns no result you can search by product name instead.
Aldi products have limited barcode coverage as Aldi does not expose detailed product data through a public online catalogue.
Frequently asked questions
It works on most packaged grocery products available online at Woolworths, Coles or Aldi. Products with no barcode on file will not return a result but you can search by name instead.
